Crew Mess Attendant

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing support for the Crew Mess Area and the Main Dining Rooms, Buffet during service ensuring cleanliness of these areas at the completion of service. Reports to the ship's Food Manager 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing a friendly and professional service to the Officers, Staff and Crew Members of the cruise line in their assigned dining area as well as for the transportation of the food and beverages from the galley to the officer, staff and crew mess 

  • Responsible for the replenishment of the buffet service counters and for the maintenance and cleaning of the above-mentioned personnel dining areas 

  • Transports back to the galley the soiled dishes, glassware and silverware 

  • Follows the cruise line guidelines regarding uniforms and personal hygiene and ensures that cleaning and sanitizing of his/ her assigned area is always up to the standards of the cruise line and according to the USPH and/or UKPH regulations 

  • Participate in courses, meetings and training programs to develop the necessary skills needed for promotion to superior level position 

  • Sets up tables where necessary in the assigned mess and takes care of all linen pertaining to that mess, coordinating pick up and drop off with the ships Laundry

  • Promotes, sells and serves drinks as per the officer bar list. Controls also the stock, submits requisitions, participates in and carries out inventories of this stock

  • Responsible for accurately filling out requisitions of all consumables for the assigned Mess and submitting them for approval to the Chief Crew Steward

  • Any additional work as required by the supervisor. Report to the supervisor and follow up on all maintenance problems through the maintenance repair book 

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or basic education equivalent is preferred

  • Minimum 1-year experience working in a Restaurant as a Waiter or Assistant Waiter in an upscale hotel, resort, cruise ship or convention banqueting service (shipboard experience preferred)

  • Certificates of completion of training programs in the Food and Beverage preferred

  • Basic command of the English language is required, knowledge of additional languages is a plus 

  • Adequate Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and use of cleaning equipment is required 

  • Possess good interpersonal skills, positive attitude and willingness to learn as well as be customer service focused and eager to work in a high-volume, fast-paced guest service environment 

  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external guests, some of whom will require high levels of discretion, patience, tact and diplomacy

  • Be able to work with international team members and adequately follow orders
