JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
The Galley Steward supports all areas of the Food Operations department by ensuring the Galleys are clean, all utensils, crockery and cutlery are ready for our guests to use. This position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the shipboard employee occupying this position. Employees may be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the Company's Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Wash, rinse and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, and all other galley utensils.

Operate various cleaning equipment

Handle and dispose of chemicals and food waste

Assists with food preparation and meal planning

Sweeps and clean galley deck, scuppers, walls and ceilings as required using the proper tools and machinery provided

Wash, rinse and sanitize all Galley elevators daily, using minimal water

Prewash food from dirty dishes and washes by hand or places in racks or on conveyor to dishwashing machine, ensuring there is enough space between them for proper washing rinsing and sanitizing as machine is used. Wash, rinse and sanitize all dirty utensils, pots and pans, ensure stored correctly as clean and let air-dry

Report any equipment failure as seen to your direct Supervisor ensure all machinery parts are put back in place as the cleaning process is completed

Operate various cleaning equipment. Clean all kitchen equipment and machines

Handle and dispose of chemicals and food waste

Participate in all safety drills and trainings as scheduled

Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required. Performs related duties as required

Must be physically strong and able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs and sustain physically challenging work for up to 9 months at a time

Perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management
Required Qualifications and Skills
-
Minimum 1-year experience in a food preparation/service position in restaurant or hotel (shipboard experience preferred)

Completion of High school or GED

Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, requirements and use of equipment

Ability to effectively deal with internal and external guests, some of whom will require high levels of discretion, patience, tact and diplomacy

Knowledge of principles for providing exemplary customer service including problem resolution and achievement of quality service standards

Be able to work with international team members

Excellent ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially

Excellent ability to understand, read and write English in order to interpret written procedures, policies and manuals. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers

Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Ability to work efficiently and maintain cleanliness in a fast-paced kitchen environment

Willingness to work as part of a team and take direction from superiors

While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
