JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Summary

The security officer ensures the safety of customers, employees, and property, in person, on-ship or via security CCTV. This role includes conducting foot or vehicle patrols, controlling access at points of entry, securing equipment and people, responding to emergency situations, and helping to identify and prevent criminal activity.

 

This role requires flexibility and readiness to work on a vessel traveling across multiple Caribbean countries (including but not limited to Barbados, Trinidad, St. Lucia, Grenada, Guyana, and Suriname) as well as providing security support at designated land-based operational points.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities

• Enforce company policies and procedures regarding access control and conduct

• Maintains environment by monitoring and setting up building and equipment controls

• Maintains the organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements

• Conducting shift handover procedures at the start and end of each shift to ensure all matters of concern are accurately noted for the purposes of service and incident management continuity

• Check IDs, inspect vehicles, and verify visitor credentials

• Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.

• Secure all exits, doors and windows after end of operations

• Ensuring all times, a smart, alert and visible security presence at the company premises

• Conduct routine inspections and patrols both onboard and on land

• Enforce company security protocols and respond swiftly to incidents or emergencies.

• Assist in crowd management and boarding procedures at passenger ports.

• Work in collaboration with port authorities, customs, and immigration officers when required

• Secure safety of warehouses designated as per assigned country

• Any other duties as assigned

Work Environment

• This role includes deployment onboard a working cargo and passenger vessel operating throughout the Caribbean region

• Travel is required along various maritime routes and temporary assignments at land-based operational centres and ports in different countries

Education and Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required

• Prior experience of working as a Security Officer or a Security

• Guard in the security industry or someone who is confident following specific procedures and instructions

• Proven experience in maritime, port, or corporate security

• STCW Certification (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) is an asset

• Training in first aid, firefighting, and crowd management preferred

• Security Certificate/License

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Must be able to stand for up to 4 hours

• Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.

• Basic computer skills (for logging tickets, email reports) 

• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

• Excellent sense of judgment

• Ability to stay calm under pressure and respond quickly to incidents

• Familiarity with report writing

• Excellent surveillance and observation skills and Physically fit

• Willingness to work on a rotational schedule, including nights and weekends.

• Ability to travel regionally and adapt to various cultural and operational environments

• Valid Police Certificate of Character

• Professional appearance and demeanor

• Must have good teamwork skills and integrity
